David Anthony and Fillip Cannard will be present on automating the Shell Eco-marathon Urban Concept Vehicle. This vehicle is two-seater model car that is used for the Shell Eco-marathon Autonomous Programming Challenge. Engineers at Southwest Research Institute modified the vehicle for autonomous driving by adding sensors, computing, and actuators to the base vehicle. SwRI then built an autonomy software stack for the vehicle, primarily using open source Robot Operating System (ROS) software. SwRI will discuss the challenges and outcomes of this development, and future plans for using the vehicle as part of student challenges.

David Anthony, Ph.D., is a lead engineer in the Artificial Intelligent department at SwRI. He works on AI, computer vision, and localization for a variety of uncrewed and factory robot systems.
Filip Cannard is an engineer at SwRI, and a recent graduate of St. Mary's University. As an intern at SwRI, Fillip re-built the Urban Concept Vehicle and developed the autonomy software for it. At SwRI, Fillip works on the software for a diverse set of robotic systems.
