Shell Eco-marathon Autonomous Programming Challenge

Room: Executive Cafeteria, Bldg: Cafeteria - Building 161, 145 Tom Slick Ave, San Antonio, Texas, United States, 78238, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/484200

David Anthony and Fillip Cannard will be present on automating the Shell Eco-marathon Urban Concept Vehicle. This vehicle is two-seater model car that is used for the Shell Eco-marathon Autonomous Programming Challenge. Engineers at Southwest Research Institute modified the vehicle for autonomous driving by adding sensors, computing, and actuators to the base vehicle. SwRI then built an autonomy software stack for the vehicle, primarily using open source Robot Operating System (ROS) software. SwRI will discuss the challenges and outcomes of this development, and future plans for using the vehicle as part of student challenges. https://ecomarathon.swri.org/ David Anthony, Ph.D., is a lead engineer in the Artificial Intelligent department at SwRI. He works on AI, computer vision, and localization for a variety of uncrewed and factory robot systems. Filip Cannard is an engineer at SwRI, and a recent graduate of St. Mary's University. As an intern at SwRI, Fillip re-built the Urban Concept Vehicle and developed the autonomy software for it. At SwRI, Fillip works on the software for a diverse set of robotic systems. IEEE CTS 5-22-2025 Hybrid Meeting – The Science of Fun in Mobile Gaming

Room: 1, Bldg: Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Rd., Austin, Texas, United States, 78754, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/483331

Abstract Video game development is pretty incredible if you think about it. For generations now, the weaving of technology with artistry has enabled a vast expanse of opportunities for creative minds to stretch their imagination and bring audiences along for the ride. It’s in our modern era of mobile technology, however, that audiences are finally able to respond back via the data they generate. It’s this data that defines the mobile gaming experience, setting the industry apart from its predecessors and allowing it to rapidly dwarf them. To understand the value in this data, we’ll start with a primer on the mobile gaming market. From there, we will dive into the various business models that mobile technology enables as well as some of the development practices that motivate easy data collection and usage. Finally, we'll tie these two threads together and show how data heightens gamers’ experiences and magically turns into money. Speaker(s): Jacob Claussen Agenda: 6:25to 6:35 PM - Open for participants to enter and network. 6:35 to 6:40 PM - IEEE LM and CTCN Business meeting and to introduce speaker. 6:40 to 7:55PM - Formal Program and Q&A. Room: 1, Bldg: Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Rd., Austin, Texas, United States, 78754, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/483331
